Dental Veneers

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are the thin covering of a tooth-colored material designed to correct a wide range of cosmetic issues, including uneven spacing, gaps and misalignments, worn-down surfaces, irregular edges, cracks, chips and discoloration. Today’s veneer materials are extremely strong and can be tinted to match your surrounding teeth so no one will know you have them.

How are veneers applied?

First, the surface of your tooth will be “roughened” a bit so the veneer adheres better. This may involve removing a tiny superficial portion of your tooth or using a chemical etching medium. Once the surface is prepared, your veneers will be applied using a special adhesive designed to stand up to the wear and tear of regular use. In most cases, the veneer procedure will require two visits: one to shape the teeth and determine the best shading for the veneer and a subsequent visit for placement. At your first visit, you’ll be provided with a temporary covering to prevent tooth sensitivity and keep your smile looking good.

Do dental veneers require special care?

No, you can care for them just as you would your normal teeth, with regular brushing and flossing. Although they’re designed to resist staining, avoiding foods and drinks that are known to cause stains – or rinsing after consuming them – can help ensure they look their best for years to come.
